Preventing and Controlling Healthcare-Associated Infections: The First Principle of Every Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in Hospital Settings

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global public health issue, causing over a million deaths annually. Hospital antimicrobial stewardship programs aim to improve antibiotic use and reduce AMR. Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are closely linked to AMR, necessitating broader-spectrum antibiotic regimens. This review presents seven measures for healthcare workers to support infection prevention and control, raising awareness about the increasing rate of AMR and ongoing efforts to minimize its rise.
